Anésia Pinheiro Machado

1902 - 1999

The second Brazilian woman to receive her pilot license and the first to carry passengers in the country, Machado has been recognised for her pioneering achievements in aviation. She was the first person to obtain a U.S. commercial pilot's license with additional ratings as instructor and for flying on instruments only. She was the first female pilot to make stunt flights and was the first female journalist writing exclusively on aviation matters.
